Horizont e.V.

For 28 years, Jutta Speidel’s association HORIZONT in Munich has been supporting homeless mothers and children by providing support and safe housing. The goal is to enable them to lead an autonomous life with a future full of opportunities.

72 mothers and 175 children currently live in two HORIZONT houses. One is a shelter for traumatized families and the other is a house for socially disadvantaged families. Another shelter is currently being built, as the demand continues to increase. Most HORIZONT families have fallen into homelessness as a result of domestic violence, and they need more than just a roof over their heads.

HORIZONT provides holistic support which encompasses the entire educational spectrum. Our own theater, Spagat at the Bauhausplatz, plays an important role in our cultural activities. The projects implemented there provide opportunities for creative expression, emotional processing, and social participation.

About the Engagement

In 2025, the Dr. Otto and Margarete Graber Foundation is funding two important projects in HORIZONT’s cultural work. One of them is a music education project for children and young people which offers them an outlet to relieve mental stress and strengthens their cognitive and oral language abilities. The other one is the youth theatre project, “Ballad of the Girls of the Past,” which traces three different fates of young women in the Second World War and explores the impact of anti-democratic forces on individuals, as well as their social context.
