“Music heals, music comforts, music brings joy” – that was the early experience of the world-famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin. This idea is the basis of the organization Live Music Now, which he founded in Great Britain in 1977. Menuhin wanted to give talented young musicians the opportunity to develop artistically and personally and to round off their training with performance experience. In addition to this, he wanted to provide a show of solidarity with people in difficult situations. Convinced that music is also therapy, Live Music Now brings music to people who cannot go to a concert due to their circumstances.
This idea is also the basis of the non-profit associations YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now, which have been founded in German-speaking countries since 1992. The now 20 German, four Austrian, and one Swiss association organize free concerts on a voluntary basis in various social institutions such as nursing homes, hospitals, support centers and refugee shelters here in Munich and the surrounding area. There are around 500 of these concerts annually. The performers are highly talented young artists who are chosen by a professional jury at the music academies. At these concerts, musicians and audiences experience the immediate power of music as a universal language that can provide comfort and strength.
For young artists, this is a valuable experience on the way to artistic maturity, and for people in these social institutions, an opportunity for cultural participation.
About the Engagement
The Dr. Otto and Margarete Graber Foundation supports the performance of two family concerts in Munich concert halls.
Children and their families from the institutions where Live Music Now organizes concerts are invited. At these events, Live Music Now does not bring music to people in institutional settings as usual, but conversely, brings the people to the music, providing an opportunity for them to experience and enjoy an unforgettable musical experience in an impressive atmosphere.
In addition, Munich families with low incomes can also purchase tickets at a special low price via München Ticket.
